The Weekly Optimist Newsletter: Veteran’s Day, Beach Week
Quotes from Me:
“Happiness is a day at the beach.”
“My favorite color is sunset.”
“I’m at the beach, see you next week.”
Quotes from Others:
“At the beach, life is different. Time doesn’t move hour to hour but mood to moment. We live by the currents, plan by the tides and follow the sun.” – Unknown
“If you need me, call me on my shell.” – Unknown
“Whenever I look at the ocean, I always want to talk to people, but when I’m talking to people, I always want to look at the ocean.” – Haruki Murakami
Quick Optimism:
A t-shirt, some shorts, and walking barefoot on the beach, and you’ll be happy in no time.
Question:
Today we honor all military veterans. On November 11, 1918, the signing of an armistice marked the end of all hostilities between the Germans and the Allies during World War I. Cities celebrated the end of the war and mourned those who died.
It just so happened that my family and I flew back from Florida today (part of the newsletter delay). We took a direct flight from Fort Myers to Burlington, Vermont and it only took 2 hours and 45 minutes in the air. It was awesome.
In combination of vacation and Veteran’s day, I thought it would be appropriate to talk about beaches again. They are significant parts of the environment and strategic landmarks for controlling coastline and trade. Hopefully you are enjoying the long weekend, and hopefully you have been to the beach recently.
Question:
What do you do at the beach? Do you have a favorite activity?
Not really sure if I can think of anything I don’t enjoy doing at the beach. But coming off a week-long stay on Sanibel Island, I thought I would list a few of my favorites (in no particular order).
- Shelling
- Seeing wildlife (saw dolphins, birds, and fish)
- Water sports (body surfing, swimming, boating, everything you can do behind a boat)
- Running, biking
- Kites, playing catch, chasing kids around
Thank you, Veterans!
